The modern goalkeeper, their development, our philosophy

Most kids dream of scoring the perfect goal. I've always dreamed of saving it

- Iker Cassillas -

Developing the modern goalkeeper.
Welcome to the Goalkeeper training program for SA United.
Our program staff are Rob Buchanan, Director of Goalkeeping,  and Coach Brendan Johnson. Rob solely works with our Senior goalkeepers whilst overseeing Brendan with our Academy and Junior Goalkeepers.
Our program aims at developing the modern goalkeeper, a player who understands the concept of goalkeeper as the first attacker, prepared to stop shots but also use their feet and hands to distribute and build attacks from the back.
At the program core, players will develop their techniques such as; handling, catching, parrying, diving, scooping, footwork, 1v1 and decision- making. Tactical focus on effective distribution, communication, field awareness and organization complete the program.
All SA United players are eligible to attend the program, if their Program Director or Head Coach approve this.

Aurora O

Parent / Goalkeeper Program

Both of my children take goalkeeper training, one is U10 and the other is U12. They like to go to practice and enjoy the training, the coaches are really nice and patient with them. The coaches have been developing their skills for almost 2 years. The training encourages them to be leaders of the team.

Parent / Goalkeeper Program

With a staff of three coaches dedicated to player development, SA United is the premier club for goalkeepers in the San Antonio area. Their success-based curriculum focuses on technical, tactical and conditioning sessions at age appropriate levels.

Parent / Goalkeeper Program

This is our son Preston's second full season in the Goalkeeper Program. Since beginning the program, we believe there is a night and day difference. He is now responding much quicker to the ball, covering angles and is improving at reading the opponents as they approach. Overall, we think the program and coaches are great.
